25th Anniversary of the 2004 EU Enlargement

2022: 35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Programme

A blend of two key elements of the Erasmus programme: its original intellectual inspiration — Erasmus himself — and an allegory of his influence on Europe. The former is represented by one of the most celebrated portraits of Erasmus; the latter by a ray of connections crossing the coin from one beacon to another, representing the many intellectual and human exchanges between European students. With regard to Europe, some of these connections form additional stars born from the synergies between nations.

2015: 30 Years of the European Flag

The EU flag as a symbol that brings peoples and cultures together, united by shared ideals and aspirations for a better future. Twelve stars take on human form and welcome the birth of a new Europe. Along the upper right of the coin ring the name of the issuing state and the years "1985–2015" appear. The mint mark is to the right, between the flag and the dates. The designer's initials (Georgios Stamatopoulos) appear at the lower right.

2012: 10 Years of Euro Banknotes and Coins

The euro has grown into an important factor both within Europe and globally, becoming a key player in the international monetary system. The elements arranged around the euro sign symbolise the significance of the euro for people, the financial world (ECB tower), trade (ships), industry (factories), the energy sector, and research and development (wind turbines). The artist's initials "AH" appear below the ECB tower. The names of the issuing states in their national languages are inscribed centrally above the motif, with the years 2002–2012 below.

2009: 10 Years of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU)

At the centre, a stylised human figure whose left arm is extended by the euro symbol. The artist's initials appear below the euro symbol. The name of the issuing state in the national language(s) appears along the upper edge of the design, while the inscription 1999–2009 and the acronym EMU translated into the national language(s) appear along the lower edge.

2007: 50 Years of the Treaties of Rome

At the centre, the treaty document signed by the six founding members, against the backdrop of the star-shaped paving designed by Michelangelo for the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, where the treaty was signed on 25 March 1957. Directly above the document the word "Europe" is inscribed in the relevant language. Above that, the commemorative occasion; below, the issuing country in its respective language(s) and the year 2007.
