At the end of 2003, the European Union created the possibility of issuing national 2-euro commemorative coins with legal tender status throughout the entire euro area. Since then, all euro-area countries have been permitted to strike a 2-euro commemorative coin once a year to mark special occasions. That decision laid the foundation for what is currently Europe's most popular collecting field.

The idea for the website zwei-euro.com was born, and the site went live for the first time in August 2004.

Over its now twenty years of existence, the project has grown into the leading source of information for many collectors. Even in the early years, we published the first comprehensive catalogue of all 2-euro coins, at a time when the hobby was still young and few people imagined the significance it would one day hold. This is due above all to our commitment to obtaining all information first-hand — directly from mints and ministries. Ever since, we have provided high-quality, thoroughly researched information on all 2-euro circulation coins and commemorative coins.

We see ourselves as a website "for the collector" and are therefore always open and grateful for suggestions and proposals. It is no coincidence that collectors and dealers alike regard us as "the information portal for 2-euro coins", and that since 2004 we have been responsible for a significant share of the international press coverage in specialist journals and daily newspapers.

What began as a private information project has thus grown over time into one of the most comprehensive resources on the subject of 2-euro coins. Today, zwei-euro.com is part of Richter & Dyballa Verlagsgesellschaft and offers every conceivable piece of information on the hobby.

Current, informative & authoritative since 2004.
