2-euro coins 2019 – background & themes of the year
The 2019 vintage brings 32 new commemorative coins – no circulation coins, and a year with a clear focus on Germany: two separate German issues take centre stage among the 2-euro commemorative coins 2019.
A notable coincidence links Germany and France: both countries independently mark 30 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 2019. Another parallel comes from Italy and San Marino, which both feature the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death.
Germany's Bundesländer series takes a break in 2019 – instead, two standalone commemorative coins appear: one for 30 years since the fall of the Wall, and one for 70 years of the Bundesrat (Federal Council).
Among the microstates, Monaco remains the scarcest issue of the year with 15,000 pieces for the 200th anniversary of Prince Honoré V's accession. San Marino strikes 56,750 coins each for the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death and the 550th anniversary of Filippo Lippi's death, while Andorra mints 60,000 pieces each for the 600th anniversary of the Consell de la Terra and the finale of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup.
