The defining story of the year comes from Finland: with its own commemorative coin the country celebrates 100 years of independence, one of the most sought-after designs among the 2-euro commemorative coins 2017.
Several other national anniversaries mark the year: Cyprus honours Paphos as European Capital of Culture 2017, Slovenia looks back on 10 years since adopting the euro, France commemorates the 100th anniversary of Auguste Rodin's death as well as 25 years of the Pink Ribbon breast cancer campaign, and the Vatican dedicates an issue to the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Fatima.
