2-euro coins 2013 – background & themes of the year

The 2013 vintage of 2-euro commemorative coins comprises 23 issues, all commemorative. There was no EU-wide joint issue, but Germany and France shared a common theme: the 50th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty, which sealed their reconciliation in 1963.

Germany featured two designs in 2013: the commemorative coin marking 50 years of the Élysée Treaty, and Baden-Württemberg as the next coin in the "German Bundesländer" series. Both are among the most sought-after German 2-euro coins 2013.

Mintages for the 2013 microstate issues stayed low once again: San Marino struck 115,000 coins for the 500th anniversary of Pinturicchio's death, while the Vatican released two coins, 115,000 for World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro and 125,000 for the 2013 sede vacante. Malta (507,500, self-government 1921) and Portugal (525,000, Clérigos Church bell tower) also kept mintages relatively tight.

As with most vintages, the collector value of 2-euro commemorative coins 2013 usually matches face value – the exceptions being the low-mintage issues from the Vatican and San Marino. Use the coin identification tool to identify any coin, and learn more about the smallest issuing states on the microstates page.
