Spain occupies the greater part of the Iberian Peninsula, stretching from the Pyrenees down to Andalusia. After the end of the Franco dictatorship, the country returned to democracy and joined the European Community in 1986. Spain introduced the euro in 2002. Its capital is Madrid.
