The Principality of Monaco, situated on the French Mediterranean coast, is the second smallest state in the world after the Vatican. Although not a member of the EU, Monaco issues its own euro coins under a monetary agreement — they appear in low mintages and are particularly sought after by collectors. The city-state is governed by the House of Grimaldi.
