Country information
The island state of Malta lies in the central Mediterranean south of Sicily and is the smallest EU member state. For centuries, the history of the island was shaped by the Knights of Malta and British rule. Malta joined the EU in 2004 and introduced the euro in 2008. Its capital is Valletta.
