Both Maltese 2-euro commemorative coins for 2025 were issued today.

The theme of the first coin is "The Maltese Ox" from the "Native Species" series. The obverse depicts the Maltese ox standing in a meadow at center. Along the upper edge, the commemorative inscription "IL-GENDUS MALTI" is shown, with the issuing country "MALTA" and the year "2025" along the lower edge. The initials "MAF" of coin designer Maria Anna Frisone are placed at the lower right of the design field. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin is issued with a mintage of 140,000 pieces, including 40,000 in a BU coincard.

The theme of the second coin is "Mdina" from the "Maltese Walled Cities" series. The obverse features a view of Mdina, situated on a 185-metre spur of the Dingli Plateau. The commemorative inscription "MDINA" appears above and to the left of the design. The issuing country "MALTA" is shown to the lower left and the year "2025" to the lower right. The initials "NGB" of coin designer Noel Galea Bason appear at the upper right. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin is issued with a mintage of 147,000 pieces, including 40,000 in a BU coincard and 7,000 in a BU mint set.
