The Republic of San Marino has released official images of its upcoming 2026 €2 commemorative coin marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, while also announcing a correction to the mintage figures compared to the original legislative decree.
The coin's design was created by artist Fani Ivanka Taurino and depicts the taming of the Wolf of Gubbio. As planned, the coin will be officially issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. While the total mintage remains unchanged at 60,000 pieces, there has been an important adjustment to how the different qualities are distributed.
Contrary to the figures originally stated in the official legislative decree, the mintage of the brilliant uncirculated (BU) blister version has been increased by 500 pieces, bringing it to 52,000 coins. As previously anticipated, there will once again be no smaller circulation-quality release of this €2 coin.
