Cyprus's 2-euro commemorative coin for 2026 has been issued. The coin's theme is "EU Council Presidency." The obverse features the logo of Cyprus's EU Presidency, which runs in the first half of 2026, inspired by the handmade lace embroidery of Lefkara known as "Lefkaritika." The commemorative inscription and year "KYΠPIAKIH ΠPOEΔPIA ΣYMBOYΛIOY EE 2026" run along the upper rim; the issuing state "KYΠPOΣ KIBRIS" is positioned at the lower rim. The twelve stars of the European flag are on the outer ring. Designed by Marios Kouroufexis, the coin has a total mintage of 275,000, including 5,000 each in BU coincard and BU capsules, and 15,000 in proof case.
Cyprus holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1 January to 30 June 2026, completing the so-called "trio presidency" together with Poland and Denmark. The official motto of the Cypriot Presidency is "An Autonomous Union. Open to the World." The official logo and visual identity consist of 27 individual elements, symbolically representing the EU's member states. Their arrangement forms a radiant Cypriot sun, evoking renewal, warmth and hope, while also replicating the characteristic geometric patterns of Lefkara lace embroidery.
