In early October, Cyprus submitted a draft proposal to the Council of the European Commission for formal approval of a 2026 2-euro commemorative coin. The official theme has not yet been announced. It is, however, reasonable to expect that it will be "EU Council Presidency", which Cyprus will hold from January to June. The obverse will feature the design alongside the country name "KYΠPOΣ / KIBRIS" and the year "2026". The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin is expected to be issued as early as January 2026 in a total mintage of 275,000 pieces, including 5,000 BU coincards, 5,000 BU capsules and 15,000 proof cases.
