The design of Latvia's 2-euro commemorative coin for 2026 has been announced. The coin's theme is "Christmas Market Tradition." The origins of Christmas markets in Europe date back to the Middle Ages, and they have become an enduring fixture of European festive tradition. Given this long history, the Latvijas Banka is issuing a 2-euro commemorative coin in 2026 dedicated to the Latvian Christmas market tradition. The obverse depicts a Christmas market scene with stalls and a large Christmas tree at the centre. To the left of the tree stands a person holding a hot drink; to the right, the crowned weathercock that adorns the spire of Riga Cathedral. The issuing state "LATVIJA" and the year "2026" appear along the upper rim. The twelve stars of the European flag are on the outer ring. Designed by Anna Vaivare, the coin has a total mintage of 412,000, including 12,000 in BU coincard.
