Germany's first 2-euro commemorative coin for 2025 was issued today by the Federal Ministry of Finance. The theme of the first coin in the "Federal States II" series is "Saarland." The obverse depicts the Saar Loop, reduced to the essential characteristics of the meandering river motif, with the forested hill landscape following the course of the Saar. The characteristic shape of the waterway from a bird's-eye view fades into the surrounding hilltops in the distance. Along the lower edge, the commemorative inscription "SAARLAND," the country code "D" for Germany, and the year "2025" are shown. The overlapping lines forming a "W" – the coin designer's mark – are placed along the left edge. On the right, the relevant mint mark – "A," "D," "F," "G," or "J" – is shown. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin, designed by Carsten Wolff, is issued with a mintage of 30 million pieces.
