The Bank of Greece presented the struck specimens of its 2025 2-euro commemorative coins at its stand at the World Money Fair in Berlin today.
The theme of the first coin is "100th Birthday of Mikis Theodorakis." The obverse depicts the Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis (1925–2021) conducting, positioned to the right. Along the upper edge, the commemorative inscription "100 XRONIA AΠO TH ΓENNHΣH TOY MIKH θEOΔΩPAKH" is shown; below on the right, the initials "ΣTAM" of the coin designer, and to the left of them, the palmette of the Greek mint. At the lower left, the issuing country "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ" appears, above it the year "2025" and a treble clef. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin, designed by Georgios Stamatopoulos, will be issued with a total mintage of 750,000 pieces, including 5,000 in a BU coincard and 3,500 in a proof presentation case.
The theme of the second coin is "200th Death Anniversary of Laskarina Bouboulina." The obverse features the heroine of the Greek War of Independence, Laskarina Bouboulina (1771–1825), on the right, depicted before the rigging of a sailing ship based on a 19th-century painting by an anonymous artist. Running from lower left to upper right along the edge, the commemorative inscription "200 XRONIA AΠO TO θANATO THΣ ΛAΣKAPΝAΣ MΠOYMΠOYΛIΝAΣ;" the issuing country "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ" is visible at the lower right. On the left, the year "2025," the palmette of the Greek mint, and below it the initials "λδ" of the coin designer are shown. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin, designed by Leda Pavli, will be issued with a total mintage of 750,000 pieces, including 5,000 in a BU coincard and 3,500 in a proof presentation case.
