Portrait of Guillaume, successor to Grand Duke Henri, facing left. To the left: the issuing state "LËTZEBUERG" and a stylised detail of the Luxembourg lion. The year "2026" appears at the bottom centre between "LËTZEBUERG" and the portrait. The designer's initials "CP" are visible at the lower right.
Guillaume, born in 1981, is the son of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and holds the title of Hereditary Grand Duke, making him next in line to the throne. Featuring a still-reigning monarch's heir on a circulation coin is unusual in Europe and signals the upcoming generational transition in Luxembourg's ruling house. Luxembourg remains Europe's only sovereign grand duchy, with its dynasty tracing back to the House of Nassau-Weilburg.
