Further information

Guillaume (born 1981) is the eldest son of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa and has been Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg since 2000. Stéphanie de Lannoy (born 1984) comes from the Belgian nobility and studied political science in Louvain as well as training at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels. The couple married on 20 October 2012 in a civil and religious ceremony in Luxembourg City that drew major international attention to the Grand Duchy. Stéphanie has since held the title of Hereditary Grand Duchess and is publicly engaged in social and cultural projects in Luxembourg; Guillaume represents the country in state and economic functions, including as a member of various international institutions.

Luxembourg is one of the few remaining Grand Duchies and looks back on more than 1,000 years of history as an independent political entity. The House of Nassau-Weilburg has ruled the country since 1890; the dynasty's continuity holds great symbolic importance for Luxembourg's identity. With the birth of Hereditary Grand Duke Charles in May 2020, the direct line of succession was secured. Luxembourg's mint authority marked the tenth wedding anniversary of Guillaume and Stéphanie in 2022 with a 2-euro commemorative coin recalling this dynastic milestone.
