Today, Thursday 16 July 2026, the Croatian National Bank (Hrvatska narodna banka – HNB) officially issued the first Croatian 2-euro commemorative coin of 2026. The coin celebrates the nation’s media history and is dedicated to the historic anniversary “100 Years of Croatian Radio and Television”.

The design is closely tied to the beginnings of Croatian broadcasting: it commemorates the historic moment on 15 May 1926 at exactly 8:30 p.m., when Radio Zagreb went on air for the very first time. This event marks the start of organised broadcasting in Croatia. On the national side, created by the academic sculptor Karlo Gross, stylised radio waves are depicted across five lines. Harmoniously integrated, they display the year of issue “2026”, the occasion “100 GODINA HRVATSKE RADIOTELEVIZIJE” and the country code “HR”. The wave lines symbolise the dissemination of information and culture across an entire century.

The commemorative coin was struck at the state-owned Croatian Mint (Hrvatska kovnica novca). The total mintage is limited to 200,000 pieces. Of these, according to the central bank, 190,000 are intended for direct circulation. Collector editions in coincards (brilliant uncirculated) and in a case (proof) are issued additionally in a partial mintage of 5,000 pieces each.
