The design of Slovakia's 2026 2-euro commemorative coin has been revealed today. The theme is: "Trenčín – European Capital of Culture 2026." The obverse features a central composition dominated by the silhouette of a medieval castle with a distinctive tower and other attributes of historic architecture. The lower half incorporates symbols of the fine arts: a colour palette and brush, a film camera, and a theatre mask. The commemorative inscription "TRENČÍN" is placed in the lower part of the castle silhouette on the right, with the year "2026" above it. Along the upper edge of the design field, the issuing country "SLOVENSKO" and along the lower edge "EURÓPSKE HLAVNÉ MESTO KULTÚRY" are shown. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin, designed by Klara Fojtů, is expected to be issued in January 2026 with a mintage of approximately 1 million pieces, including 5,000 in a proof presentation case.
