The designs of Portugal's 2025 2-euro commemorative coins were published today in the Official Journal of the European Commission, Document 5061/25.
The theme of the first coin is "Sustainable Development." The obverse features a depiction of planet Earth at center, surrounded by the commemorative inscription "DESENVOLVIMENTO SUSTENTÁVEL." Running from lower left to upper right across the design field, a branch-like sequence of 17 pairs of leaves, each arranged in a triangle forming the universal recycling symbol, represents the 17 goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At the upper right, the name of the mint "CASA DA MOEDA" and the coin designer's name "CAROLINA LADEIRA" are shown. The national coat of arms separates the issuing country "Portugal" and the year "2025" at the lower right. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin, designed by Carolina Ladeira, will be issued with a total mintage of 515,000 pieces, including 7,500 each in a BU coincard and a proof folder.
The theme of the second coin is "World Scout and Youth Movements." The obverse features a fleur-de-lis at center – the most universal symbol of Scouting. Along the upper edge, the commemorative inscription "SEMPRE ALBERTA * SEMPRE PRONTO" is shown; on the left, the coin designer's name "PEDRO CARVALLHO;" on the right, the mint name "CASA DA MOEDA;" and along the lower edge, the issuing country "PORTUGAL" and the year "2025." The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin, designed by Pedro Carvallho, will be issued with a total mintage of 515,000 pieces, including 7,500 each in a BU coincard and a proof folder.
