A further EU joint issue has been announced in the Official Journal of the European Commission for 2029. The theme is the "25th Anniversary of the 2004 EU Enlargement". The obverse will feature the selected main design alongside the commemorative inscription and the country name in the respective national language or as a country code, along with the year "2029". The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The most recent joint issue was released in 2022, marking the "35th Anniversary of the Erasmus Programme", preceded by "30 Years of the European Flag" (2015), "10 Years of Euro Banknotes and Coins" (2012), "10 Years of the Economic and Monetary Union" (2009) and "50 Years of the Treaty of Rome" (2007).
