Today, the first Portuguese 2-euro commemorative coin of 2026, “100 Years of Rotary Club in Portugal”, was issued.
The coin’s theme is “100 Years of Rotary Club in Portugal”. The design side shows a stylised depiction of several human figures surrounding a globe. This globe, meant to symbolise the Earth, is marked with lines of latitude. In the upper right of the design, two hands are placed one above the other, and behind the globe is a cogwheel, the symbol of the international Rotary network. In the lower centre appear the occasion “ROTARY”, the issuing country “PORTUGAL” and the year “2026”. In the lower right is the inscription of the mint “CASA DA MOEDA”, and to the lower left the name of the coin’s designer “Esc. João Duarte”. The national coat of arms between them separates the inscriptions along the lower edge. The outer ring of the coin bears the twelve stars of the European flag. Designed by João Duarte, the coin is released in a total mintage of 515,000 pieces, including 7,500 pieces each in a BU coincard and in a proof folder.

In doing so, its members make an important contribution to the common good while strengthening the ideal of responsible service to the community. The anniversary honours not only the history of the Rotarian movement in the country but also the commitment of many generations of members who have brought about positive change.
