Lithuania's first 2-euro commemorative coin for 2025 was issued today. The theme is: "For Defence." The obverse depicts the outline of Lithuania, its national borders surrounded by a stylised barrier with outward-facing spikes symbolising the concept of total defence of the entire society. Lithuania is represented as a hedgehog, always ready to defend itself. The hedgehog image also stands for the openness and fragility of free societies, which must be defended against external threats by all available means. At center, the issuing country "LIETUVA," the year "2025" below it, and the mint mark of the Lithuanian mint are shown. The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. The coin, designed by Tomas Dragūnas & Karolis Tumelis, is issued with a mintage of 500,000 pieces, including 5,000 in a BU coincard.
