Slovakia's first 2-euro commemorative coin for 2026 has been issued. The theme is "Trenčín – European Capital of Culture 2026." The obverse presents a central composition dominated by the silhouette of a medieval castle with a characteristic tower and other elements of historic architecture. The lower half incorporates symbols of the fine arts: a palette and brush, a film camera, and a theatre mask. The commemorative inscription "TRENČÍN" is positioned within the lower part of the castle silhouette to the right, with the year "2026" above. Along the outer rim, the issuing state "SLOVENSKO" appears above the design and "EURÓPSKE HLAVNÉ MESTO KULTÚRY" at the lower rim. The twelve stars of the European flag are on the outer ring. Designed by Klára Markl Fojtů, the coin has a mintage of 1 million, including 5,000 in proof case.
