The struck Slovenian 2-euro commemorative coin for 2026 has been released. The coin's theme is "150th Anniversary of the Birth of Ivan Cankar." The obverse features contour lines derived from the vertical grid of the sculpture "Ivan Cankar," arranged in a striking concentric composition that reinforces the archetypal image of Cankar. The sculpture stands in front of the "Cankarjev dom" cultural centre. The design is a remarkable example of a contemporary numismatic interpretation of Cankar's portrait, one that transcends tradition and enters into dialogue with the present. The commemorative inscription, the issuing state "SLOVENIJA" and the year "2026" appear alongside the design. The twelve stars of the European flag are on the outer ring. Designed by Adam Breznik, the coin is issued on 17 June with a mintage of 1 million, including 3,000 in proof, 1,000 in proof coin set, and 5,000 in BU coin set.

Ivan Cankar (1876–1918) is regarded as the greatest Slovenian writer and playwright, and the founder of Slovenian literary modernism. Through novels, short stories and plays, he combined realism with sharp social criticism, laying bare poverty, social injustice, hypocrisy, and the conflicts between the individual, morality and the Church. Among his most important works are "Hlapec Jernej in njegova pravica" (The Bailiff Yerney and His Rights), "Na klancu" and "Pohujšanje v dolini Šentflorjanski." His lucid prose, psychological precision, and lasting influence on subsequent generations make him a central figure in Slovenian cultural and literary history.
