The Bank of Greece presented struck examples of both 2-euro commemorative coins for 2026 at its stand at the World Money Fair in Berlin.
The first coin carries the theme "200th Anniversary of the Exodus of Missolonghi." The obverse depicts a scene from the Greek War of Independence of 1826. Along the upper rim appears the commemorative inscription "200 XRONIA AΠO THN EΞOΔO TOY MEΣOΛOΓΓIOY," below which the year "2026" and the palmette of the Greek mint are visible. The issuing state "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ" appears at the lower rim. The twelve stars of the European flag are on the outer ring. Designed by Georgios Stamatopoulos, the coin has a total mintage of 750,000, including 6,000 in BU coincard and 3,500 in proof case.
The second coin carries the theme "100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Academy of Athens." The obverse depicts the historic main building of the Academy as part of the Athenian Trilogy. Along the upper rim appears the commemorative inscription "100 XRONIA AΠO THN IΔPYΣH THΣ AKAΔHMIAΣ AθHNΩN," below which the palmette of the Greek mint and the year "2026" flank the Greek flag on the building. The issuing state "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΔΗΜΟΚΡΑΤΙΑ" appears at the lower rim. The twelve stars of the European flag are on the outer ring.
