The theme of Estonia's 2026 2-euro commemorative coin has been announced today. The theme is "Sipsik," a beloved children's book character who has been a favourite of readers for generations and has inspired tens of thousands of children to love books. The obverse will feature, alongside the main design, the commemorative inscription "SIPSIK," the issuing country "EESTI," and the year "2026." The outer ring bears the twelve stars of the European flag. No public competition will be held for the coin's design; it will be created in collaboration with the Estonian Centre for Children's Literature, based on the original illustrations by Edgar Valter. The coin is planned for 2026 with an expected mintage of 1 million pieces, including 12,000 in a BU coincard.
