The theme of Germany's second 2-euro commemorative coin for 2027 has been announced. The coin carries the theme "North Rhine-Westphalia – Aachen Cathedral," issued in the "Federal States II" series launched in 2023, in which a different federal state and its most iconic landmark are honoured each year. The obverse will feature Aachen Cathedral alongside the commemorative inscription, the country code "D" for the issuing state, the year "2027," the coin designer's initials, and the respective mint mark "A," "D," "F," "G" or "J." The twelve stars of the European flag will appear on the outer ring. The coin is planned for 2027 with an expected mintage of approximately 30 million.
