A tree composed of human silhouettes and cogs. The silhouettes symbolise the integration of society, culture and education in pursuit of a sustainable future; the cogs represent the synergy of ideas and proposals exchanged at the summit. Alongside the tree, the logo of the 27th Summit. Three triangles along the upper edge stand for the colours of the Andorran flag; six triangles below represent Andorra's openness to the Sustainable Development Goals. The occasion 'XXVII CIMERA Iberoamericana ANDORRA 2020' runs along the left edge.
The Ibero-American Summit is a multilateral forum that has, since 1991, brought together the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries of Latin America and the Caribbean along with the Iberian Peninsula. It comprises 22 states whose historical and cultural ties date back to the colonial era but which today pursue shared interests in education, social development and economic cooperation. The process is coordinated by the Ibero-American General Secretariat, SEGIB, based in Madrid, which oversees ongoing cooperation programmes between member states. Andorra is not a full member of the Ibero-American Community, but maintains close political and cultural ties with Spain and Portugal — geographically nestled between the two countries and with Spanish as one of its official languages.
That Andorra was designated to host the 27th Ibero-American Summit in 2020 underscores the growing international standing of this Pyrenean microstate. The summit was held under the guiding theme of innovation and knowledge for a sustainable Ibero-Americanism — a framework placing technological change, social cohesion and investment in education at the centre as prerequisites for future-proof development. Andorra, known for its high quality of life, stable economic system and growing digitalisation initiatives, would have sent a strong signal for modern multilateralism as host. On the occasion of this summit, originally planned for 2020 in Andorra, the principality issued the 2-euro commemorative coin in 2020.
