A mountain biker descending at speed in the centre of the design. The occasion 'CAMPIONATS DEL MÓN UCI DE BTT' runs along the upper edge. The issuing state 'ANDORRA' and the year '2024' are worked into the splashing mud and gravel of the trail, set between rocks to the left and woodland to the right. Andorra hosted the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships from 28 August to 1 September at the Pal Arinsal Bike Park in La Massana.
Andorra ranks among Europe's most demanding mountain-biking destinations. This high-mountain country in the eastern Pyrenees, with peaks rising above 2,900 meters, offers technical terrain, steep descents, and natural trails that have for years attracted professional riders and ambitious amateurs alike. The Vallnord Bike Park area around Pal-Arinsal is internationally renowned for its downhill and cross-country tracks and had already hosted several UCI World Cup races before 2024.
The UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, organized by the international cycling federation Union Cycliste Internationale, bring together the world's best mountain bikers in disciplines such as downhill, cross-country, and short track. For Andorra, the 2024 World Championships marked a sporting-political highlight: for the first time, the small principality hosted a major event of this scale. The combination of alpine infrastructure, proven track sections, and logistical connections via the capital, Andorra la Vella, made it possible to stage the event at an international level. Andorra also used the occasion as a platform for its sports tourism. To mark the 2024 World Championships, the principality issued this commemorative coin.
