Further themes for Bulgaria's 2-euro commemorative coins in 2027 and 2029 have been revealed.

The second Bulgarian 2-euro commemorative coin for 2027 carries the theme "20 Years of Bulgaria in the EU." The obverse will show the main design alongside the commemorative inscription, the issuing state "БЪЛГАРИЯ" and the year "2027." The twelve stars of the European flag will appear on the outer ring. The coin is planned for 2027 in a mintage yet to be announced.

Over the past two decades, Bulgaria has drawn closer to the European Union, which it joined on 1 January 2007. The country has benefited from EU structural funds, infrastructure investment and improved access to the single market, while challenges around anti-corruption reform, the rule of law and social inequality have persisted. On balance, EU membership has furthered Bulgaria's modernisation, even if the process of convergence is not yet complete.

The first Bulgarian 2-euro commemorative coin for 2029 carries the theme "150 Years since the Tarnovo Constitution." The obverse will show the main design alongside the commemorative inscription, the issuing state "БЪЛГАРИЯ" and the year "2029." The twelve stars of the European flag will appear on the outer ring. The coin is planned for 2029 in a mintage yet to be announced.

150 years on, the Tarnovo Constitution remains a milestone in Bulgarian statehood and modern constitutional thinking. Adopted in the aftermath of liberation, it laid the groundwork for a parliamentary order, civic rights and the institutional development of the country. It embodied the aspirations of its age – freedom, the rule of law and national self-determination – and is still celebrated as a defining symbol of Bulgaria's democratic renewal.
