The designs of Portugal's 2-euro commemorative coins for 2026 have been published in the Official Journal of the European Commission, document 5144/26.
The first coin's theme is "100 Years of Rotary in Portugal." The obverse features a stylised depiction of several human figures surrounding a globe marked with lines of latitude, symbolising the Earth. Two hands are placed above one another at the upper right, and behind the globe a cogwheel represents the symbol of the international Rotary network. The commemorative inscription "ROTARY," the issuing state "PORTUGAL," and the year "2026" appear at the centre bottom. At the lower right, the mint name "CASA DA MOEDA" and at the lower left the coin designer's name "Esc. João Duarte" are inscribed, separated by the state coat of arms. The twelve stars of the European flag are on the outer ring. Designed by João Duarte, the coin is planned for March–April with a total mintage of 515,000, including 7,500 each in BU coincard and proof folder.
The second coin's theme is "70 Years of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation." The obverse features a four-horse chariot, the emblem of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, which has symbolised the institution's four principal areas of activity since its founding. Along the upper rim appear the commemorative inscription "FUNDAÇÃO CALOUSTE GULBENKIAN," the four areas of activity "ARTE • BENEFICÊNCIA • CIÊNCIA • EDUCAÇÃO," and the years "1956 – 2026." The mint name "CASA DA MOEDA" appears at the lower right and the coin designer's name "PEDRO CARVALHO" at the lower left. The issuing state "PORTUGAL" and the state coat of arms appear between these inscriptions. The twelve stars of the European flag are on the outer ring. Designed by Pedro Carvalho, the coin is planned for September with a total mintage of 124,000, including 11,000 in BU coincard, 8,000 in proof folder, and 5,000 in reverse proof.
