Coin description

The first circulation coin depicts the front of the country's Government Palace (Palazzo Pubblico), built in the 19th century in a historicist style. The Palazzo Pubblico serves simultaneously as town hall and seat of the "Consiglio Grande e Generale", housing the parliament and the government. It stands on Monte Titano and was built between 1884 and 1894.

More about the motif

Since its construction at the end of the 19th century, the Palazzo Pubblico on Monte Titano has housed San Marino's key institutions, including the Grand and General Council, the republic's parliament. Built in neo-Gothic style, it replaced an earlier medieval structure and was deliberately designed as a symbol of state continuity and republican self-government. As the political heart of one of Europe's smallest and oldest states, the building stands for San Marino's centuries-long independence.
