Coin description
The coin's motif has not yet been revealed. The issue commemorates the 300th anniversary of the death of Isaac Newton. The English physicist, mathematician and astronomer is regarded as one of the most important scientists in history and, through his work on classical mechanics, gravitation and optics, laid essential foundations of modern natural science. Newton died on 31 March 1727 in London. The coin is to be issued in San Marino's customary versions: brilliant uncirculated (BU), proof and reverse proof.

Isaac Newton (1643–1727) is regarded as one of the most important scientists in human history. The English mathematician, physicist and astronomer shaped numerous fields of modern natural science through his research. He became especially well known for formulating the law of gravitation and the three laws of motion named after him, which formed the foundation of classical physics for centuries.
Newton also made significant contributions to optics. Through experiments with prisms, he was able to demonstrate that white light is composed of different colours. In mathematics, too, he left a lasting mark, independently developing fundamental methods of calculus alongside other scholars.
His principal work, "Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica", published in 1687, ranks among the most influential scientific books of all time. In it, Newton described the laws of motion and gravitation, laying the foundation for the modern understanding of the universe.
To mark the scholar's 300th anniversary of death, San Marino is dedicating a €2 commemorative coin to him in 2027. The issue thus continues a long tradition of European coins honouring important figures from science, culture and history.
