San Marino – Land of Peace

The coin's motif has not yet been revealed. With the issue "San Marino – Land of Peace", the world's oldest surviving republic seeks to highlight its historic tradition of neutrality, freedom and peaceful coexistence. San Marino has repeatedly featured themes of peace, international understanding and humanitarian values on its coins. The coin is to be issued in San Marino's customary versions: brilliant uncirculated (BU), proof and reverse proof.

With the theme "San Marino – Land of Peace", the Republic of San Marino honours its centuries-old tradition of freedom, independence and peaceful coexistence. The small state on Monte Titano is considered the oldest surviving republic in the world, with a history dating back to the year 301 AD. Despite its location in the heart of Italy, San Marino has preserved its independence over many centuries.

Internationally, San Marino is known above all for its political stability and its traditionally neutral stance. Throughout its history, the republic has offered protection to numerous refugees and politically persecuted individuals and has repeatedly been perceived as a symbol of freedom and peaceful coexistence. During the Second World War, the country took in tens of thousands of refugees from the surrounding regions.

With the 2027 €2 commemorative coin, San Marino wants to highlight these values and underline its role as a peace-loving state in Europe. The theme ties in with the republic's historical identity and recalls that peace, dialogue and mutual respect remain among the country's most important principles to this day.
