A revised effigy of King Albert II of Belgium with the royal monogram; the twelve stars of the European Union, the year of issue, the country code BE and the mint marks — differing from catalogue numbers BE-99 K1 and BE-07 K1. Die engraved by Luc Luycx after a design by Jan Alfons Keustermans.
National side identical to catalogue number BE-99 K1; €2 reverse with a geographical representation of the entire European continent.
King Albert II reigned over Belgium from 1993 until his abdication in 2013 in favour of his son Philippe. His reign was marked by recurring tensions between Flanders and Wallonia and by protracted government formations, during which the king served as a unifying, non-partisan figure. The crowned monogram "A II" featured on Belgian coinage throughout his reign.
