Coin description

The left-hand side of the circulation coin bears a profile portrait of Willem-Alexander, King of the Netherlands since 30 April 2013; the inscriptions "Willem-Alexander" and "Koning der Nederlanden" are positioned to the right.

More about the motif

Willem-Alexander became King of the Netherlands on 30 April 2013 after his mother, Beatrix, abdicated in his favour. He is the country's first male monarch since 1890 and a member of the House of Orange-Nassau, which has held the Dutch crown since the kingdom's founding in the 19th century. Before his accession, he built an international reputation as an expert on water management and sport, including serving as a member of the International Olympic Committee.
