The circulation coin bears a portrait of the Austrian pacifist and novelist Bertha von Suttner (1843–1914), who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905.
Bertha von Suttner was an Austrian writer and pacifist whose 1889 novel "Lay Down Your Arms!" became one of the most influential works of the international peace movement. In 1905 she became the first woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded for her advocacy of international arbitration and disarmament. She also maintained close contact with Alfred Nobel, and some historians credit her influence as a factor behind his decision to establish the Nobel Prize itself.
