Coin description
The circulation coin shows Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg (b. 1955), who served as Grand Duke of the country from 7 October 2000 to 3 October 2025, in profile. The name of the issuing state in the national language, 'LËTZEBUERG', indicates the coin's origin.
More about the motif
Henri, born in 1955, ascended the throne in 2000 after his father Jean's abdication and reigned until he himself abdicated in favour of his son Guillaume in 2025. Luxembourg is the world's only remaining sovereign grand duchy, its ruling house closely tied to the House of Nassau since the 19th century. The inscription "Lëtzebuerg" deliberately uses Luxembourgish rather than French or German, underscoring the country's distinct national identity.
