The German Federal States Series is the most extensive and best-known 2-euro series. Since 2006, Germany has dedicated a commemorative coin to one federal state each year — typically featuring a landmark or UNESCO World Heritage site, in the order of the Bundesrat presidency. The first round ran from 2006 (Schleswig-Holstein) to 2022 (Thuringia); a second round began in 2023. Each edition is struck at the five mints A, D, F, G and J — making the series an attractive collecting area for mint mark enthusiasts as well.
