The German Federal States Series is the most extensive and best-known 2-euro series. Since 2006, Germany has dedicated a commemorative coin to one federal state each year — typically featuring a landmark or UNESCO World Heritage site, in the order of the Bundesrat presidency. The first series ran from 2006 (Schleswig-Holstein) to 2022 (Thuringia); the second series has followed since 2023. Every edition is struck at all five mints A, D, F, G and J — an added attraction for collectors of mint marks.
